About Mufoto
MUFOTO (Mulanje and Fortrose Together) is a partnership between Mulanje Mission Community Day Secondary School in Malawi and Fortrose Academy in Scotland. There have been strong links between Scotland and Malawi for over 150 years, starting with David Livingstone's journey to Malawi in 1859.
This partnership was established in 2006 by Linda Nelson and Rona Mackintosh, a Fortrose Academy teacher. Since then there have been 3 trips by pupils and teachers from Fortrose to Mulanje, with more than 40 pupils participating over the 5 years. The next trip is planned for 2015.
During their visits to Mulanje pupils and teachers from the Academy have carried out important tasks such as HIV/AIDS peer education at the local youth club in Mulanje and the building of a community hall in 2012, as well as teaming up with local young people for activities in the community. They also climbed the spectacular Mount Mulanje to take part in conservation work, planting over 100 rare Mulanje cedar trees.

kate's 2012 reflections
I arrived back from a holiday abroad to find a letter addressed to me sitting on
the table. I opened it and was informed that I had been accepted to go to Malawi in 2012. I was so excited but the thought of raising the money did seem
daunting. I soon realised however that it was not that difficult when you put
your mind to it and with plenty support from family and friends I had it raised
in no time. The years flew by and suddenly I found myself looking out the window of the London sleeper train at the shrinking shape of my waving mum. We were going to Malawi at last. The trip itself was the most incredible experience and I loved every single minute of it. Being thrown into a new culture was a real eye-opener and was not all what I expected. A trip like this looks great on a university application and I was asked about it in all of my interviews. I learned loads of valuable skills through the trip as well. If I could go and do it all again I would!
